Old River Park was the vision of Col. Edward Deeds, the former president of NCR Corp., who opened the park to NCR employees and their families in 1939.
Deeds hired the famed Olmsted Brothers, whose firm designed New York’s Central Park, to create and landscape the system of lagoons, rustic facilities, nature trails and playground areas.
Closed in 1998, Old River was reopened in 2009 under the management of Dayton History.
The 33-acre park features a 1.5-mile scenic lagoon, canoe rentals, miniature golf, outdoor games, footpaths and pavilions.
Old River is located across Patterson Boulevard from Carillon Historical Park. Access is off River Park Road, behind the Dayton Daily News Media Center at 1611 South Main Street, Dayton.
