Mr. Gardère passed away March 1st from a pulmonary embolism at the age of 65. The driving force behind the Rhum Barbancourt company, he was beloved and respected by the people of Haiti for his contributions to the country and its people. He will be missed by all of those who knew him.

So sorry to hear this. Barbancourt rums will always have a special place in my heart. I had always thought of rum as something to be mixed until Haitian friends turned me on to Barbancourt with just a cube and maybe a piece of lime. My one trip to Haiti for humanitarian work ended with a bottle of 5-star being passed around a bonfire on our last night (take a wild guess who decided to make that happen :-) ). I'll have to enjoy a glass today to honor Mr Gardère. Onè Respè.

That is sad. He was too young to go so soon.
