Frazetta died of a stroke at a hospital in Florida, aged 82. It's a good thing Frazetta's adult children managed to resolve their dispute over control of thieir father's work a few weeks ago. According to an Associated Press article from April 23:

His children have been tussling over an estate estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars, filing dueling lawsuits in Pennsylvania and Florida. They resolved their differences following two days of mediation in Scranton, according to a statement issued by the family Friday. "Frank Frazetta is pleased to announce that all of the litigation surrounding his family and his art has been resolved. All of Frank's children will now be working together as a team to promote his remarkable collection of images that has inspired people for decades," the statement said

Truly a master.

Funny how timely things happen. i have recently been studying Frazettas career from 1954 - 1961, the years he worked as a ghost artist for Al Capp and his Li'L Abner comic strip. I am unveiling a new tribute mural to Al Capp in my hometown of Amesbury Mass, this Saturday, May 15. The mural has been sanctioned by Capp Enterprises of Manhattan and his daughter Julie "Capp" Cairol. In fact, I've hired FOM member Granite Tiki to create a hillbilly jug band and perform at the mural unveiling. Carl will lead "The Lonesome Polecats Jug Band"
Al Capp lived most of his life in my hometown and is buried here.
In what are know as "the Frazetta Years" of li'l Abner, Frazetta was hired to help Capp with the enormous creative task of drawing not only the comic strip but the countless advertising contracts that "li'l Abner" represented, including Cream of Wheat, Orange Crush, Surf Detergent and many more. In the Comic Strip during the Frazetta Years - Lil Abner became much more wordly and frequently adventured out of Dogpatch. We find out what shiftless hillbilly Li'l Abner does for a living? Revealing that he has a job... as a mattress tester! Abner also becomes a successful cartoonist and separates from Daisy Mae. We learn how to pronounce Joe Bftsplk! (The little man with the cloud over his head who is the world's worst jinx.) Al Capp reveals the easy answer. Earth is invaded by flying saucers, Hairless Joe becomes the Duke of Djaugh, Adam Lazonga returns, deadly turnip termites invade Dogpatch, General Bullmoose turns 99... and much more.
The Frazetta years were best characterised by a bevy of buxom babes, teasing Li'l Abner including WolfGal, Stupefyin' Jones and Moonbeam McSwine!
RIP Frazetta, You'll be in my thoughts, and the thoughts of an entire city, on Saturday!

Frazetta's costume shop in East Stroudsburg is awesome. Truly a sad day.

I'm glad you saw this jpmartdog. I'd been reading about Frazetta's involvement with Al Capp just moments before I saw he had passed!

There was a great Frazetta documentary I saw on PBS a few years ago.

Frazetta auction this Friday with a bunch of drawings. There's lots of pics and some story too: http://io9.com/get-ready-to-appreciate- ... 1746907250
Some of it is NSFW if you work in a really uptight place.

Check your local library for "Legacy, paintings and drawings by Frank Frazetta". You will not be disappointed.
