So some years ago and I mean many, many years ago old Pop decided to build a golf cart. An electric powered, nice and quiet golf cart for running around the neighborhood. What we ended up with was an electric powered wheel stander of a golf cart. By adding an extra battery and solenoid along with a two speed switch this thing was the fastest electric around and the bigger tires didn't hurt either. Much like having and electric "turbo" boost when you pulled the switch. The body was home fabricated out heavy gauge steel so it got pretty heavy and to overcome that, a little bit of ballast was added in a few critical spots and the wheelie mobile was born. We put the wheelie bars on after hitting the emergency room three Saturdays in a row and that saved a lot of lost time.

Anyway.. here are a few pics as a blast from the distant past.

We were the Saturday entertainment for the neighbor kids for a while too. They lined up for rides like it was the corner bus stop. Yes we did do some laughing!

Do you still have it?

Did it use resistor banks for speed control?

Yes foredeckape, it did have resistors and they survived by not useing lower speeds when increased voltage was applied. Just used the boost at the upper end of the speed control travel and we didn't burn anything out.
We finally parted with it last October and sent it to a new home. I'm not sure they really knew what they were getting.

Hey Di we would have done a wheelie clear down the street. The longest was a block and a half, which wasn't bad for 1960 tech.

Yep.

When I was a small kid I used to sneak out to walk ten blocks to go watch our annual Christmas parade and my most FAVORITE part that I was always so excited to see was the Shriners passing by because they had these cool crazy carts that had those same roller bars on back so they'd gun it and pop wheelies and swerve all around back and forth toward the crowd to toss candy then back to the middle again. As soon as they'd come by I'd run and follow them for a good block or two (our parade was only about 15 blocks long). I was always beaming ear to ear watching their antics cause it looked like so much FUN to me! Love those memories and your thread just made me imagine how much fun I'm sure you all were having too! ( well...minus the emergency room visits anyhow ha!).
