We must begin with the end in mind. Longtime Tiki lover based in ATL area seeks like-minded others for fellowship, fun, rum and, last but not least, to become a Fellow. I guess it all started when, many moons ago, my family stayed at the Polynesian Resort on my first trip to Disney World. My Pop instilled the love of the Mai Tai into me...but I only recently came out as a Tiki enthusiast and rum lover. So be gentle.

My closest Tiki hangout is S.O.S., but my favorite so far is Trader Vic's Atlanta, because, of course, Saint Victor himself founded and decorated the place. I consider myself lucky to live in driving distance of this Tiki haven, and truly fortunate to live near a city with TWO Tiki bars.

When it comes to drinks, I must admit that the Mai Tai is my go to, the gold standard. I do love a good Navy Grog or Scorpion or Painkiller, but I always find my way back to the Mai Tai somehow. I have shared Mai Tais with people I love over and over in the cozy confines of Trader Vic's, and those times are among the happiest days of my life. Yet, with some help from friends I haven't met, I am hoping to expand my palette of options, with an especial yearning for other drinks made with miraculous orgeat. As it happens, I go both ways: Rum and brandy.

In the category of other interests, I have this scorching case of NeedstogetaPHD, so you'll often find me with my nose in a book. When I'm not doing that, I'm working or lifting or wrapping up my hands and getting ready to spar in the boxing ring or about to go into high gear behind the wheel of the finest car ever made. I'm always eager to read or watch or listen to fine journalism. While I do love music from Tiki's golden age, EDM is where it's at.

I'm planning to meet at least five Fellows this weekend at the Tongariki Meet and Greet, though I hope over time to share a wonderful Tiki libation with as many Fellows and rum fans as I possibly can. The longest journey begins with but a single step. Very much looking forward to walking with you.

Oh, I realized at the ATL meetup last night that I posted this too early. Hopefully jumping the gun isn't frowned upon.

Not at all. Declaring intention and then following through is all that matters in my book. It was a pleasure to meet you and look forward to seeing you and everyone else who gathered for the Meet and Greet again.

PM the next time you are heading to Trader Vic's or S.O.S. if you want to meet up.

For sure! It'll be a minute until I'm back in the city proper again, but I'll let you know. I actually went to SOS right afterwards on Saturday, but the place was packed.

It was wonderful to meet all of you. The swizzles are brilliant. Now I have something new to add to my own private Tiki altar. Thanks again.

I wasn’t able to attend the meet-n-greet because of a neck issue, but I look forward to meeting you at another event! And I agree - EDM is great. Did you do TomorrowWorld before they went belly up?

Sadly, no. I've only been to Shaky Beats so far. One of the best weekends of my life, also because Trader Vic's was a short walk away.

Of which speaking, anyone doing anything for the 83rd anniversary of Hinky Dink's tonight? Wish I could be there.

You as well! Hope to see more of you all in the future. Got my name on the waiting list for the home bar tour in the winter. Fingers crossed.
