Hi everyone, I plan on being in the LA area in a few weeks and would like to ask for some suggestions.
I plan on visiting Don The Beachcomber in Huntington Beach, Trader Sams at Disney, Tiki Ti, and
Tonga Hut in Hollywood.
Are there any not to be missed spots? Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Clifton's, downtown LA, has a Tiki Bar on the second floor called Pacific Seas.

They claim to have opened in 1932, a full year before Don the Beachcomber, and claim to be THE original tiki bar.

Doubtful.

But the bar is really cool. The DJ booth is an old teak Crisscraft.

Go early. It will get packed.

Thank you TikiTexan. This looks promising.
I also plan on visiting Oceanic Arts for the first time.

I’m biased because I am a small partner in the enterprise, but the distillery tour at Lost Spirits is amazing. Dora Pirates of the Caribbean, except you get off the boat to have some rum with the pirates.

Could you make a day to get to San Diego? Could add Bali Hai and False Idol to the list.

I see Pacific Seas at Clifton's made your list. Take a look at the decor and the history notes, and let us know what you think.

I agree with these but sad to say, since this was posted Don the Beachcomber closed this past weekend, it's a sad day in Southern California having lost one of our iconic tiki spots.

Tikijose - NO!

So glad I took the opportunity in October to see it in person. Tore UP the karaoke. But that's not tiki.

OK- Better late than never? My apologies for not checking back to my post.
Recap of LA trip last spring.
Friday- arrived from ATL in the afternoon.
Visited Forest Lawn Cypress cemetery and paid respect to Eddie Cochran.
Friday night we were fortunate to catch one of the last days of Don The Beachcombers.
We had stage side tables for the performers and it was a great show.
I became fans of the acts Ukelena, The Ding Dong Devils, and the headliners The Hula Girls with burlesque model Ginger Watson as one of the dancers.
The place was sold out and packed. The only negative to the night was the service was lacking but the ambiance and music made up for everything.

Saturday and Sunday stayed at Disneyland and made returning visits to Trader Sams (good as usual).
Picked up a shipwreck mug for the collection. We had our Easter dinner here complete with potstickers.

Monday we spent 3 hrs at Oceanic Arts. I came home with or shipped home a puffer fish lamp, fish trap lamp, tapa cloth, carved tiki, and mug. Amazing place!

Tuesday spent the evening at Tonga Hut in North Hollywood. More mugs
We didn’t make Clifton’s as I had hoped as we were staying in Beverly Hills Monday and Tuesday and ran out of time.
Mahalo everyone for your input.

Clifton's is awesome in general--not just the "hidden" tiki bar. Start at the basement & work your way up! Many interesting things to see. And maybe you'll get lucky & be there on a night the Hula Girls are playing--they seem to be there relatively often since Don's closed.
