Aloha all!
After a "cooling down" period after this year's Ohana, I would like to officially declare my interest in becoming a fellow Moai.

Between the '17 CATT and this year's Ohana X, the Universe has made it abundantly clear that I have found a very special group of people that are friendly, creative, inclusive, fun and help kids out whilst doing it. I think, through the amazing people that I've met and the trials that await, y'all will see that I can bring the same level of shenanigans for a great cause.

A bit about me. I fell in love with the aesthetic of tiki/Polynesian pop after my first trip to The Enchanted Tiki Room. The colors/energy and gardens were something amazing. I had no idea how the tiki world would overlap the other hobbies I enjoy.

I'm a car guy. Love to work on them, talk about them, drive 'em. One of these days I'll get my '32 Ford Hi-boy roadster. For now I'll enjoy my MGB convertible.

I'm a vintage Airstream owner. We turned our '64 into "Faye's Tiki Lounge" in 2011. Built a traveling tiki bar, complete with smoking tiki heads to take camping with us.

I've got a vintage furniture/lamp/tchotchke problem too. Oh, boy... do we have a lamp problem. Oh, and we have a full bar in our basement. It provides ample opportunity for the making of poor choices!

I love surf music. There is no such thing a "too much reverb"! I have been lucky enough to see some of the greats play live.

On a trip to Las Vegas in '12 we went to Frankie's Tiki Room. It was as if it all came together in some crazy explosion. I just never put it together. There was a group of people that enjoy all the same stuff that I do!

We've done Viva Las Vegas a bunch of times. We've been to some of the Mai Kai special events. The '17 CATT was our first introduction to the FOM. I wanted to run home and declare my intent the day we got home. I thought I may want to cool it and see if my excitement continued after we attended another event. I made friends with people on the interwebs from the CATT, and we attended Ohana this year.
I'm happy to say that my commitment only grew.

So, here is my formal declaration of interest to become a member.

Please let me know if y'all want to know anything else about me. I love to tell stories, as I'm sure you'll find out (or have already).

Can't wait until Hula Hop to see a bunch of you again!
ShortRound

A little bit more that might be of interest...

We live in Livonia, Michigan. Home of Chins and the famous Tiki X-Mas show.

My favorite tiki drink is a Fogcutter, but I usually order a Painkiller at a new place. The Painkiller is a good barometer of how a bar is going to be.

I love to make my own syrups for hosting events at our home bar. I've tried making my own falernum and allspice dram. My favorite syrup that I make is a pineapple simple syrup.

Favorite moment of Ohana X was SCOTS. Seeing a rocking band that close up, surrounded by people dancing and loving life was a magical moment. Favorite room crawl is tough. I really loved the Fly Away room. The creativity of everyone was awesome.

Meeting so many people I had connected with on social media was also special. It is amazing how much you get to know someone online, but then instantly connect in person. I had many moments like that at Ohana. Oh, and the mystery bowl presentations were unforgettable. Plus, it helps out kids. Perfect!

Anything else y'all would like to know?

SR

Baby goats are cute, but you gotta show the adults some respect.

Aloha, and welcome to the path from a former fan (victim?) of SU Carbs and Lucas Electronics. Sadly it’s been decades since I gave up my Spitfire but looking forward to seeing photos of the MG (and your other wheeled toys). I think you’re gonna like it here.

I should have illustrated my introduction, as I enjoy pictures with my stories...

I'm married to Safari Faye. She is far more attractive, smarter and more talented than I. Plus, she dresses better too!
Image

This is our 1964 Airstream we named "Faye". It's named after our niece, and it has take on a life of its own. That's how Safari Faye got her tiki name. We named the trailer first, and then she took on the persona!

Image

Our little runabout is our MGB. The roads in Michigan are terrible, but this makes driving a wee bit more fun.
Image

And finally... Faye's Tiki Lounge. Our home bar. Our oasis in a crazy world. Someplace I hope to share with many of you. Provider of fun and opportunities for poor decisions.

Hope that puts a face/picture to the introductions!
Let me know what else you'd like to know/see or stories I can tell.

The mice made nests in the original carb setup over 20 years ago (that's how long I've had that car) and I put in an Weber kit to simplify the setup. However, there is no escaping Lucas electronics when you've got a British sports car!

Thank you! Y'all are welcome here. What's the point of having a great bar if you don't get to share it with friends?

We understand the bigger house thing! We had the stuff to fill this house BEFORE we owned this house. :o

Aloha! I'm jealous of the amount of space you have for your bar and trailer? Did you bring the Airstream to Ohana?

We did not. That was our original plan, but we figured we would need a better place to "get ready" (i.e. shower). With the sweltering temps at Ohana this year, we made the right choice. Especially since the Airstream doesn't have A/C.

The bar is original to the house. We just "jazzed" her up a bit.

Your Airstream looks incredible! Do you have any interior pics you could share? How much restoration did you have to put into it? I hope we'll get to see it at Ohana one year!

We searched for our Airstream for quite a while and tried to get the most complete (yet still as original) trailer possible. We thought we had one that we wouldn't need to do much to it, but that proved to be wrong. There isn't anything on the trailer that I haven't messed with. Vintage trailers are all the fun of a car combined with all the fun of a house.

New axle, plumbing, charging system, VCT flooring, paint, custom full-sized bed, refreshed the original cabinets, custom pinup "nose-art", pinstripe on banana wrap, custom bathroom gel-coating... the list goes on and on.

She is amazing. We've had so many adventures with her and met amazing people. 1700 miles through the UP of Michigan in '15. Another 1700 miles through PA, WV and OH last summer.

I'll see if I can't get some pics of her for you.
