Okokuluku to all of you!

Last Friday I had the pleasure of performing with and conducting the National Jazz Orchestra of Mexico in another concert of my project Esquivel 100, which is a retrospective (Retro-Spective!!) on 40 years of Esquivel's music. We performed at a really great concert hall in Morelos, 2 hours South of Mexico City, that has pre-hispanic pyramids right in front!!

In attendance were Professah Humming Flower and Tabuzak!!! They flew in from Honolulu and NYC respectively. The Professah even played a tune with us, Boulevard of Broken Dreams!!! :fez: :fez:

Also in attendance was Mario Esquivel, the son of Esquivel!!

Here is a video from that concert:

Standard boilerplate YouTube pitch: Like my video!! Subscribe to my channel for more exciting content!! Thanking you in advance!!

Thanks for sharing. I really just became aware of Esquivel a few years back, though I've probably enjoyed his music my entire life without knowing who he was. Happy to se his music being kept alive.

Thanks for sharing!! The music does sound familiar, kind of a mix of Herb Albert and Martin Denny. I'll have to look up his creations and explore some.

Glad you cats dig it!! It certainly was a blast.

Here's one from the early days of Esquivel, when he was composing and arranging for his own orchestra and backing up the big star vocalists of the 1940s here in México. It's a bolero he composed, and Pedro Vargas sang it originally. Here it is sung by a young tenor with a bright future named Obed Calixto. Acapulco!!

Mini Skirt is such an awesome song! Love the YouTube version you’ve posted. Is this a video of your performance? I have the Mr. Ho’s Orchestroica on my tiki party playlist.

This is indeed, recorded live, on Oct. 5 of this year! It's an expanded version, as the original recording is with a smaller instrumentation, and rather than have some of the orchestra play and others not, I decided to use the full might and power of the full orchestra!

I'm sorry for the less-than-ideal audio quality, but it's what I have for now. I still have one or two more to post, so stay tuned! And there may be a live CD in the works from this...

I'll be glad to let you know about that once I know more, the concert was multi-tracked, but there will be some edits necessary and I don't know how that will be handled. Thank you for asking, and I'll certainly keep you posted, same Esquivel channel, same Esquivel time!!

If you haven't given it a listen- definitely check out his holiday album "Esquivel! Merry Xmas From the Space-Age Bachelor Pad "
It gets a couple of spins every year around my aluminum Christmas tree.

I got one last one from that concert, Granada, a composition from the hand of Agustín Lara, a great composer from here, Veracruz. He's like the Cole Porter of Veracruz, if you will. Anyway, this is a great arrangement by Esquivel, and the pianist, Roberto Verastegui, gives a fantastic performance. Enjoy!
