Thanks to the work of a great number of people, and specifically to the Wright Brothers, on this day in 1903 on a sandy stretch of beach in North Carolina, the first propeller powered heavier than air aircraft took to the skies.
Granted it wasn't a very aggressive take skyward being about 7 miles an hour and only a bit more than 100 feet. But skyward it was.
