Aloha! A cousin of my lover is a lover of an initiate and the second lover suggested I wander. I am lost. But I think this is where I belong. I frequently have volcano dreams and at my bar right now trying to recreate the Dr. Fong first seen in a menu in Chicago’s Kon Tiki Ports back in the day. Service and Aloha! With nose in the sand i wait. And not because of too much Absinthe. Aloha!

Aloha! I'm now questioning everything about my misguided youth as having spent much of my early years in the midwest, I failed to ever come across the Peoria volcano. My advice, keep searching. The truth is out there.

The Doctor Fong is a drink I was too young to try when I saw it in a menu as a child. Legend has it that this delicious drink with rum and Absinthe from the Shang Ri La

Aloha and welcome!!

Try whipping one (or two) up and see if it lives up to your memory. These were purported to be sold under multiple names including Doctor Funk, Doctor Fong or Dr. Wang. I found two recipes:

Doctor Funk
(By Don the Beachcomber, from Beachbum Berry’s Intoxica)

* 2 1/2 ounces dark Jamaican rum
* 2 1/2 ounces fresh lime juice
* 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
* 1 1/2 ounces soda water
* 1/2 ounce grenadine
* 1/4 ounce Pernod

Shake everything – except soda water – with 1 cup crushed ice. Pour into 12-ounce chimney glass and top with soda.

Doctor Funk
(By Don the Beachcomber, from Beachbum Berry Remixed)

* 3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
* 1/2 ounce pomegranate syrup
* 1 teaspoon Pernod
* 1 1/2 ounces light Puerto Rican rum
* 1 ounce club soda

Shake everything – except soda – with ice cubes, then add soda to the shaker and stir. Pour unstrained into a pilsner glass. If necessary, add more ice to fill.

Linear: born in 1968. Law School in Chicago 1990 -1993 and I am busy spreading negative aloha since then during the days a family law attorney. Outside of work, there is much aloha. My lover and I love to travel ...the Hawaiian islands are some of our favorite destinations. I have a son in pre-med and daughter going to college in London wanting to marry a prince and live in a castle happily ever after . I enjoy cooking, surfing, skiing, scuba, shooting defenseless paper targets from afar and riding motorcycle from Pacific Rim countries very fast. Mixing yummy drinks is a hobby. Our home lounge has my son’s tiki collection. And here I am now.

Aloha! I hale from the north of you in Aurora, IL . About 45 miles due west of the mini ocean (lake michigan). Welcome to the port. Not sure of the exact recipe you are seeking, but i think if you do the first one offered above and sub in the absinth in place of the pernod you will have a very close version of the cocktail you seek. I love me some absinth!
Once again, welcome! :D

I am blessed in that I didn’t know there was a Pernod that wasn’t Absinthe. Love me Absinthe as well. Marilyn Manson’s Mansinthe is our house brand. Mahalo!

Aloha and welcome to the port. Please look around and post away in any of the threads open to ya at this time.

Given your location, have you spent much time at any of the fantastic tiki bars old and new in the Chicago area?
