Hello everyone! I’ve only joined the forum today, but I can’t contain my excitement at finding all of you and this community. Tiki history and culture literally saved my life in the past year (I know it sounds dramatic but bear with me). After being medically retired from the Army National Guard and a career fire department, I was left feeling generally purposeless, wasting away and desperately trying to find a hobby. Everything changed when I tasted my first legitimate mai tai, the flavors of the orgeat mingling with the acidity of the lime and the ethanol of the rum were like nothing I had ever experienced. I ordered Smuggler’s Cove the next day and launched myself into the pursuit of becoming not only a competent mixologist, but a student historian of Tiki as a whole. Being a history nerd, I love the drama of the Don Beach/ Trader Vic dynamic. I currently live in Dallas and put on tiki pop ups in the DFW area with my wife, trying to spread the good word of exotic cocktailsto residents who haven’t made the pilgrimage up to 4 kahunas in Arlington. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you, and to the journey ahead.

-Cpt Rick

Aloha and welcome to the port. Have you made it to Texas Tiki Week yet? It's on my list.

I’m actually a fairly new transplant to Texas, I’ve only been here a few months, so I haven’t been to tiki week yet. I’m definitely going in 2020 though, it coincides with my birthday so I have extra incentive to go all out lol.

Welcome, Captain! There's always room around here for a historian who knows his way around a shaker! Don't forget the tiki mugs and Exotica!

Welcome!

Beachbum Berry's "Sippin Safari" is one of my favorite books to get both cocktail recipes, and history about the drinks.

Aloha!

I am in Austin and a part of the FOM chapter here. Would love to visit sometime down the road! Reach out if you’re ever in ATX and we can hopefully meet up for a drink!

Welcome!

Have you checked out 4 Kahunas in Arlington? I met some of the team at The Hukilau and really enjoyed their concoctions!
My favorite drink book has been Shannon Mustipher's Tiki. Between that and Beachbum Berry's double cocktail book, I am set for recipe testing for a bit lol.

Aloha!
