Aloha esteemed FOM folks,
Last weekend, a friend mentioned he was driving on Rt 20 south or Worcester and noticed an abandoned polynesian restaurant. It had a 10 foot+ Moai head and is probably haunted and worthy of a Scooby Doo episode (some of this may be conjecture). Anyway, has anyone seen this or know any history?

Delighted to connecting with you all. Looking forward to getting FOMier.

Kindest regards,
Dano Clam

Welcome to the Port, Dano Clam! Sounds like a road trip to me - is the Clamovan available?!

DANO! Welcome to the Islands. :D

The haunted Moai is located at the former Tanela restaurant in Shrewsbury.

Aloha and welcome, Dano!

Wonder if we could buy that and use it for a lodge? We have tens of dollars!

I’d like to explore this institution for some scooby doo level of hauntings. Old Man Jenkins might turn out to be a heck of a bartender!

Cool find! I wonder if there's any cool stuff left in there.
Kinda reminds me of the sad faith our one and only Tiki Garden restaurant in Montreal. Place got sold, the new owner of the place let everything inside rot and get vandalized. The was some very valuable stuff in there from the former Sheraton's Kon Tiki. :(

Thanks, and thankful for this engaging group full of deep tiki wisdom. Definitely taking the long exploratory route on the next Kahula trip.

Jinkies!

If you go, take lots of pix to share here. Sounds like an awesome adventure.

But that is thousands of pennies.

Empty defunct restaurant properties are a blight on the community. They can have large tax liens. Many community redevelopment agencies will work a deal if you are proposing a change in use, or even just offer to paint the exterior and mow the lawn.

With that huge parking lot, we could go in with a car club. Convert the out buildings to rental service bays for people wrenching, liquor license the bar as a private service club, gear the kitchen for tacos, and build a cool little eco-system, maybe with the occasional live music thing.
