I know that Malört has a bad rep, and it doesn't sound like something you'd want to ever drink shot. Even though I grew up in the Midwest, not too far from Chicago, I had never heard of it until I joined FOM. A bottle somehow made it into my household, and I'm curious how to go about drinking some of it.

I am a fan of the deliciously bitter. Give me a bitter, hoppy IPA beer, or an Italian amaro to drink. I also drink my coffee black. Apparently, that means you're a psychopath?

Anyways, I was thinking something simple like Malört and soda water, which I find delightful with many amaros. I'd love to hear your ideas on how to make Malört taste good. I was at a friend's tiki bar, and he puts it in a Pina Colada, which oddly works. The bitter helps counteract the sickeningly sweetness of the Pina Colada. But I don't see myself making rich, blender drinks on the regular.

Fellow black coffee lover here. This thread is intriguing. The Bitter End actually sounds pretty damn good - thanks for posting the recipe!

Had a drink called the Misunderstood Vitamin Swizzle at Archipelago in DC, which had Malort in it. Actually wasn’t bad.
