I am curious as to other people's thought/opnions/feelings on what rums to always keep stocked in your home bar. I consider myself having intermediate knowledge of rum (by no means am I an expert and there are lots of rums I still haven't tried!) and currently have about 30 different rums on my home bar shelf. I don't have the space or money to become a collector and amass 100+ bottles of rums for the sake of having them.

That being said, as I run out of a particular bottle of rum, I have started to question "do I need/want to replace this bottle?" or "how many different dark rums or rhum agricoles do I need?" Thus, I would love to get feedback as to what other people's rum stocking philosphy might be!

I know, ultimately, that I comes down to what I like/don't like, space, money. I do try to keep a range of rums: dark, aged, rhum agricole, overproof, general "mixing" rum for larger parties, etc., etc. I look forward to hopefully some interesting feedback!

Thanks!

I probably only have a dozen or so at my home bar. For myself, I always keep these handy:

Krakken handy for dark and stormy and guests who just want a highball.
Hamilton 86 & 151 just because it’s super delicious pot still
Lemonhart 1804 for my black navy rum
Lemonhart 151 BECAUSE!
Lemonhart Blackpool because we just love its simplicity in a Barritt’s highball. “Barritt’s and Blackpool” is a phrase in my house.
Flor de Cana 4 for my regular Presidentes and Hemingways
Havana Club 3 every chance I get because it’s my favorite for Presidentes and whatnot but I only get it when the Duchess goes on a cruise.
St Clement Select for some agricole mai tais and whatnot
Wray and Nephew for an overproof white. It and either Lemonhart or Hamilton are the base for my falernums
Pango / Bacardi Dragonberry for some of my foo foo Disney drinks
Appleton Select for my house Jamaican tiki
Appleton 12 year for my upscale Jamaican tikis
Maggie’s Farm Spiced is my favorite for Dr Fongs
RJ Seale’s funny looking bottle is my stand by Barbados
Barbancourt 8 year is also one I replace. It makes a great amber Hemingway.

Other bits and bobs float in and out of our home, but I think those are the ones we replace at present. I hope it was interesting!

EDIT: Y'all mentioned the El Dorado 12 and I absolutely replace that one too, it's delicious.

I tend to run fairly lean, I like to think of it as "efficient" ;)

Hamilton Pot Still Black & Gold
Hamilton 151
Wray & Nephew OP
Smith & Cross
J Wray Gold (mixer)
Don Q Gold and White (mixer)
R.L. Seale 10
Doorley's 12yr
Neisson Rhum Agricole Eleve Sous Bois
The Real McCoy 14yr
edit: Dammit, I forgot Hamilton "White 'Stache".

I usually have an El Dorado 12/15 or something else that's a little sweeter as well.

These seem to be the most popular rums in our house - at least they get used the most for drinks.

Coruba Jamaica Rum is a great mixing rum, if it's available near you
Pusser's is good stuff, and if you can get the Gunpowder Proof Rum, get that too
My husband loves Rum Fire or Rum Bar Silver, but he likes funky rums. I can't drink them.
For flavored rums, we adore Plantation Pineapple or Siesta Key Toasted Coconut. Clement Coconut is decent too.
I like Brugal 1888 in a Manhattan or Old Fashioned.
Cruzan Blackstrap Rum for making Jungle Birds.
Rhum BARBANCOURT 5 STAR 8 YR OLD was a favorite of mine for drinking neat.

I'm Iowa, so since the state controls distribution to liquor stores, I'm limited, but my shelf has

Meyers dark
Pusser's admiral (pusser's to be dropped over painkiller issue)
Pusser's gunpowder
Appleton signature, reserve and rare
Plantation 3 star (to be dropped due to GI interference in the islands)
Gosling's black seal
Diplomatico blanco, reserva, reserva especial (I believe these are phased out now)
Diplomatico mantuano
Flor de caña 4 and 5
Bacardi gold, 4 and 8.
Angostura 1918
Kirk and Sweeney 23 year
El Dorado 12 and 15 year

Also a bottle of st george absinthe verte, campari, and home made liqueurs
