Ahoy Mateys!

I'm running a Kickstarter Campaign for some retro 3D Tiki art I created. Please check it out!

Here's a link to the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/acmetiki/retro-3d-tiki-posters

Here's the scuttlebutt... I’ve designed THREE retro 3D posters for make-believe tiki/exotica bands, each one with its own nutty name. Familiar yet fresh, these screen-printed posters offer a rollicking and eye-catching twist on the traditional tiki genre—the perfect addition to any tiki collection.

Each element within the design, from the typography to the graphics to the background, has been individually tweaked to sit on its own layer in the 3D plane. Every piece pops off the page independently to create a truly multidimensional feast for the eyes… especially after a few Mai Tais!

And please please please… share this with anyone you know who’s into tiki, lowbrow art or atomic-age drinking culture. I’ve gotta get 125 supporters to make this Kickstarter a reality!

Mahalo! Mahalo! Mahalo!

Wow. These are awesome. The art is terrific, and I love that they will be screen printed.

How the heck did you manage the 3D separations? (That's a rhetorical question - seems like a proprietary process, so props to you for that.) I can envision a "trial & error" way to do it, but color me curious.

Thanks man!

I create everything as vector graphics in Illustrator. The key is to have each piece (typography, graphics, background, etc) be its own separate element. Then you can create blue and red layers and shift each element left or right to make it pop forward or sink back on the three-dimensional plane. You can also stretch or skew the objects to make them blend from the background to the foreground.

It sounds more complicated than it really is. If you build your files correctly, it's pretty easy.

Here's some examples of animations I created:
