My good friend sent me this the other day--himself, his sister and his cousins at Cedar Point in 1971.

Did it have any actual tiki, or just those stylized palm trees?

Cool!

I don't remember that ride at all. I do remember Jungle Larry's though. It was like a Safari-themed jungle with caged animals and stuff. They did have tiki masks and lots of bamboo. I'm sure there are pictures somewhere online.

The Tiki Twirl actually sounds like a drink!

Cheers and Mahalo,
Jeff

I don't recall the tiki twirl either.

Jeff, how's the new coaster? I didn't make it up this summer. :(

1971? I would have been 9 and Cedar Point was always part of our summer. I think at that age I was trying to get awya from "kiddie rides" like that. I do remember Jungle Larry's African Safari though.

Nice bit of history here, Velveteen.

Even though I grew up in Cleveland, I never made it to Cedar Point until high school - middle 1980s.

My family used to go to Geauga Lake all the damned time though.
Sea World was right across the lake.
Anyone have pics of the Polynesian Village there?

Tiki Twirl....

It's still there, it's now called the Calypso.

It's GREAT. Super smooth, fast, and loopy. Jeff, Ron-Tiki, me and the wahine were first riders during it's opening week- even got the t-shirts to prove it!

WOW! Talk about a walk down memory lane! I remember the Tiki Twirl! I think it was over near the other spinning ride of some obscure German name, like Schwabenstien or something.

I miss Cedar Point...what a wonderful bunch of memories I have from that place!

Last time I went to Cedar Point I b-lined to the arcade to play the old electo-mech machines.
Totally bummed when about 3/4 of them were out of order. I still had a kick-ass time riding
all of the coasters.

I propose a FOM event at Cedar Point! Anyone interested? If so, I volunteer to plan it...yes, from Utah!

I'm serious about this...I bet we could even get a group rate on tickets!

I know I would be interested. I think Ron Tiki and the Capt'n would be too!! I have a season pass already but count me in!!

If you need any help planning or coordinating this let me know. I'm a little closer than Utah.

As long as the timing was right, I'd be in.

I'll go, but I'm not a big fan of roller coasters, so I don't know how much fun it would be to have me there

I love me some coasters, but because of my height, they really screw up my back. They are designed for people shorter than me.
Hey JET - you have the same problem I imagine!
Well, anyway, I would be up for this, depending of course of my availability.
I volunteer to sneak a flask in.

Not to worry about the flask James.

Ron Tiki and I brought so much booze on one visit that all we did was sit on the outside porch overlooking the lake because we were so plastered. :wtf:
We brought steaks and other goodies too!!!

The next day we seriously kicked some coaster ass!!!!

Cheers and Mahalo,
Jeff

Okay, so if we get at least 15 people, we can get a one-day ticket for the low, low price of only $32 per adult. This is $10.95 off the regular price. I'm also going to look into hotels if anyone wants to stay over and make a real party of it! (This is of course totally selfish since I'll need to stay over...)

Do they still have the Demon Drop? The first summer that came out I was prime theme park age and I think I rode that thing abut 20 times in one day. We were terribly spoiled with Geaga (sp??) lake and sea world and all. My favorite thing at Geuaga Lake was the "plaster you against the wall spinny thing". They seem to have done away with that ride now. Too much :barf: I suspect.

You know, I love how Six Flags spruced Geauga Lake up, put a shit ton of new rides in and then sold it a year later when they figured out it would never make money. LOLZ!!!
