I'm near certain that the rules of the god damned house were set by yours truly a long time ago.

"Dedicated to those merry souls who make drinking a pleasure; who achieve contentedness long before capacity; and who, whenever they drink, prove able to carry it, enjoy it, and remain ladies and gentlemen."

So if you all want to play luau and wear shirts from the fifties and drink my drinks, then you better learn to do it right. I didn't put that in my books, menus, and on signs at the door to my establishments on account of thinking it was a nice sentiment. It is a damned rule. Like wearing a tie to a wedding, using fresh limes in my mai tai, and opening the door for a lady, it is not a suggestion, it is what separates us from the crude mongrels in the filthy beer and whiskey joints.

Now since so many of you supposedly think highly of me, do me the service of respecting the traditions I respected myself.

Lighten up on the savage and start thinking about the sophisticated part, before you all get labeled a bunch of damned fool drunks. Because if you are going in that idiot direction, I don't want to see a mai tai in your hand when you arrive.

Thanks for that Vic, I appreciate it. and I always try to keep it in mind when I enjoy your drinks, especially when I am representing the FOM. A lot of other people's reputations are tied to mine, and I always want to do my best to have a great time without turning into "that guy".

If you don't mind, I think I might make this a sticky thread.. and/or post it in the Port too.

Let me know if that's a problem for ya.

I was wondering where you have been Ghost of Victor Bergeron. It's nice to know you are still watching over us.

We raised a glass in your honor at Hukilau.

Wørd.

Why bother going to a great party if you won't remember it in the morning.

I can't speak for Vic, of course, but I would imagine he means for ALL of us to take this to heart and not just think it applies to those other drunks.

I think a lot of us could use some more sophistication and class. I know I could. In fact, I just ordered some from Amazon. Should be here Monday.

Funny, I was just thinking of this toast. Mr. Bergeron must have visited while I was enjoying my rum sour under the light of the tiki torches. Good words for all Moai, and taken to heart. Good call Vic!

Yes, but where were you when there were duuudes wearing baseball caps (backwards, natch') and shorts in the hallowed halls of TV's the other week??? And not even holding the chair for their lady friends...

They might have even ordered beer. Sans little umbrella. Egad, it just is too horrific to consider.

Oh, I am sure Vic was there. But it would be rude to do evil to a paying customer... even one who is not a gentleman.

Words of wisdom, Vic... words of wisdom. Similar to an old Arkansas proverb: "If ya cain't handle yer likker or keep yer grubby hands off my lady... git back to yer own damn trailer". Either way same sentiment... it's a lifestyle/character statement... not a git drunk partaaaay.

There is a time and place for everything, and the time and place to get falling down drunk is early Sunday evening at your own house.

Or better yet, the Kentucky Derby.

I take comfort in knowing that my friends are generally stumbling drunk right along WITH ME and so I can feel confident that as I wobble one way they are wobbling the opposite therefor setting us both on the "forward ho!" path simultaneously. (Just ask...we have video PROOF of this from Trader Vics Atlanta a few years back!)

I also believe in fate...and think all my drinking friends were fated to be mine just for this VERY reason!
