The Islands of the Fraternal Order of Moai

Yes I know this is a donnybrook but I'm going to ask anyway.

Most recipes I've seen for Jungle Bird is 'dark rum' and others say "dark / black / blackstrap" each of those are quite different flavour profiles.

I've not really had a Jungle Bird out in the wild, and I have maybe 20 rums in my stash and will try various ones to see, but ...

Not looking for a fight, but, what is your preferred rum?

I use Doctor Bird, for a Doctor Bird Jungle Bird.

Doctor Bird has a strong distinctive taste that stands up to the Campari.

Any reasonably funky Jamaican dark will work in the cocktail. Blending Jamaican with Blackstrap can have awesome results.

Oohh mixing the rums .. interesting..
I've been using Bambu which has been pretty darn good.

I tried with Diplomatico reserve and boy thats a little harsh.

I'll keep trying and noting here!

Let me start with this. Jungle birds are, possibly, my absolute favorite tiki drink. I love a bitter drink. That being said, there are loads of variations.

I love mixing the blackstrap with another rum. The blackstrap gives the drink a depth that I like.

ZsaZsaRumwhore and I like to mix Pineapple Jungle birds. We use half blackstrap rum & half Plantation pineapple rum. Delicious!
