Aloha!

HRHH4 KukuAhuThe fourth annual Hot Rod Hula Hop roared into Columbus last weekend with the blessings of the tiki gods and the support of dedicated sponsors and donors.

Largo's Tavern was the place to be Friday night when Hot Rod Hula Hop IV kicked off with the Feast of the Tiki Gods.

HRHH4 Mystery Girl and BoyPartygoers at the always sold out luau arrived to find some new surprises. Courtesy of Trader Vic's, the F.O.M. Mystery Drink on the menu was served in genuine Trader Vic's drink bowls (by a Mystery Girl and Mystery Boy!). Mai Tai fans found they could get an authentic Mai Tai the way Vic would have made it himself served in a souvenir Trader Vic's Mai Tai glass to go with the offerings from Shanghai Lily's.

If the food and drink weren't satisfying enough the entertainment was sure to please as the crowd cheered on top notch singing and dancing: Francis Llacuna, Pablus of The Crazed Mugs, Leilani Duteil, Vegas 66, and WAITIKI.

After the show Moai from around the nation gathered at private parties hosted by individual F.O.M. chapters and sampled signature cocktails that had been developed and refined with painstaking research.

HRHH4 Hot RodsThe action continued at Largo's Saturday afternoon with a trifecta of cool shopping with vendors like Daddy Katz Kustom Kulture, hot DJ music provided by Surfabilly Freakout, and vintage cars. Participants in the car show left with goodie bags from JEGS, Speedway, Hoosier Racing Tire and Edelbrock. When people needed a break they could pick up a copy of Tiki Magazine or Bachelor Pad Magazine while watching the F.O.M. film festival, a collection of original short films made by Moai.

Throughout the afternoon attendees could bid on vintage and unique items in the first annual F.O.M. silent auction including Tiki pendants by Squid and Benzart; carvings from Lake Tiki; art by Ken Ruzic; Velvet Glass coasters, poster and cards; mugs from Tiki Farm, and the highly prized one of a kind Hot Rod Hula Hop 4 mug by Pop Tiki of Colorado. The auction was a huge success thanks to these artists and many other generous donors.

HRHH4 FoodFueled by good food, including General Tso's chicken, vegi egg rolls, lemongrass chicken stix, and potstickers provided by Kahiki foods, the crowd was ready for real mayhem as the bands took the stage for a memorable show featuring Go! Tsunami!, The Cocktail Preachers, The Heptanes, The Koffin Kats and encore appearances by WAITIKI and Vegas 66. Between sets the always distracting Barnyard Burlesque Girls kept the crowd, um, excited while Lucky the Pain-Proof Man kept them amazed.
