LOVED meeting Lele Popoke (aka Audrey) and husband Nick!
And thanks to Nick, folks, Svetlana (aka me as a Russian Mail Order Bride) was able to verify that that the sentence of dirty Russian she was saying was indeed correct.

So happy for you to get to make it to Ohana.
As Fordeckape says, let us all know about you.
(And come visit Texas when you can!)

AlooooooooHAAA!

I am in such an island mood since my first Ohana this weekend, my inclination is to introduce myself like....

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
a tale of a fateful trip.
That started from this NY town,
and ends with helping kids!

My mate is a mighty IT man.
My cats are Siamese.
The five of us quarantined last year
yearning for a breeze.
A Tahitian tropic breeze.

Wait. Stop. That's probably not the right way to approach this. Aloha! My name is Audrey, married to Nick. We live in a suburb of Rochester, NY (sadly no FOM Chapters here, YET!) so I will happily be Tungane for a while. I have always had a propensity for the funky. I am a military brat that landed in SoCal for my formative high school years. Red mohawk hairstyle and dive bar bands in Los Angeles were my winter thing. Beach blanket bingo in the summer. When Nick and I stumbled into several facebook groups about tiki we were hooked!!!
Now our back room has transformed from a 2000's suburban tv room to "The Squeaki Tiki Lounge - where the drinks are always cold and the music's always HOT!- (okay I stole that from Kitty and Mr C's Enchanted Tiki Hut Show. One of our faves!)

I would love to do a more in depth version of the story, but I CAN'T GET THIS TUNE OUT OF MY HEAD......

My tiki started with Witco
(I blame my dad for that)
if not for his gift of a vintage piece
we may have lost the path.
May have lost the path.

Our Tiki Lounge is getting there
it started with a couch
It's big and green and Naugahyde
Some see it and say "yowch"!
They often DO say "yowch"

Our tiki game has been improved
in many different ways.
From music that's Exotica
To rums from far away
MANY rums from far away!

This ragtag tourist spends her time
helping where she can
from donating work to help make smiles
to finding homes for cats
finding homes for cats.

I also do some fundraising
to get medical supplies
for a local group called INTERVOL
Their work helps people thrive.
Helping people thrive.

I know this tale's not giving you
much detail I am sure.
I hope you got a giggle, though
If you like I'll tell you more.
You're sure to hear much more :)

Mahalo!

PS- Nick and I were both blown away at the warm and open welcome from all the folks associated with your great organization. We truly hope to become part of this fun, funky, fabulous group instead of drifting around the edges like flotsam.

Audrey

Aloha again!

On a more serious note, I told our story so many times over the weekend I was a bit loopy writing yesterday's post.

My name is Audrey. I was born and raised in the nomadic lifestyle of a career military family. The longest we ever stayed anywhere was 4 years. But in 1996, after a solo cross country adventure, I found myself in Rochester NY. The people and the climate must've agreed with me as I have been here ever since.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good trip to more tropical climes. But bugs and I do not get along.

I met my first husband,Ernie, at work in 1987. We were married in 1995. We left that company to start our own in 2003. I make teeth. Yup. Teeth. Or tiny replicas thereof that get installed by your dentist.
Unfortunately, Ernie passed away from colon cancer at the age of 53. This is the PSA portion of my bio- GET your COLONOSCOPIES!

I was so absorbed in getting the business running, nursing Ernie through his illness, then trying to do it all by myself, I barely had time for fun let alone charity. The best I could do was donate free crown and bridge work to people in need that lacked the resources to pay. This was through an organization called Donated Dental.

Through the power of the internet I met my current husband,Nick!

He showed me what is was to regain personal time and give some of that time to other causes.
Through his connections we are involved in a group started in Rochester by 2 surgeons. Intervol.org I won't go into detail about what they do. Google it.

I am also an artist. I paint in many different mediums. Besides selling my art on line I also sell at Purrfect CAT Cafe in Buffalo,NY. 10% of the proceeds of those sales go to helping fund the adoptions of many many cats.

Nick and I have always had a bent for the zany. Tiki is the home that fit us both to a T. Talking to others about the culture led us to Sean and Margaret. They have been avid participants at Ohana for many years. They told us about the TIKI Mecca that is Luau at the Lake and we have been on a quest to attend for the last 4 years!

At last 2021 was the year we FINALLY were able to get tickets. All of their raving was true! The best tiki party with the best group of people on the planet. Now my next quest is to immerse myself in the culture that is FOM. I was impressed with the level of commit.ent you have to giving and having fun while doing it.

Fingers crossed we get tickets for next June. I cannot wait to meet up with so many of the cool folks I met last weekend and continue building what I hope is lifelong friendships.

Your complaint has been noted.

Please refer to FOM Test Labs, section 32, directive 3462 regarding recollection misalignment due to temporal inconsistencies. In most cases, these issues are benign, and will be repaired by the test monkey on duty during the next cycle.
If you suspect your issue is an actual temporal paradox, and not the result of parody, or artistic license by sentient lifeforms, please contact your assigned FOM Temperance and Morality League representative, immediately. Do not answer the telephone at 2am on the 2nd, 5th, or 25th of the month, as it could be a trap.

Welcome!! Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you at Ohana but glad to see you here.
Thanks for giving my purse a happy new home! Words cannot convey the excitement I felt when I saw the bidding war on it. Now I'm already thinking of what I can make next year to try to top it!
