So sad to see....and the Value Engineered version of a rebuild will never capture the spirit of what it once was...a full rebuild would most likely remove the grandfather clause and force them to rethink the entire property in terms of the modern building codes...which would make it look a lot like an Olive Garden.
I am sad and scared...

We need to form up a corporation, sell off shares to raise the money, and then buy the place.

Rebuild the place in stages, get the bar open first because bar=money.

Build some sort of temporary kitchen facility to get the dining room open.

Then build a new proper kitchen.

There are a whole bunch of details I skipped but that is the core of the needed plan.

A winning lottery ticket would help too.

I hear Elon Musk likes a good rum drink, anyone have his number? He might buy more than a couple of shares in this venture.

This will take deeper pockets than we can imagine. Having operated a smaller 10000 square ft brew pub in a 100 year old building that had been ridden hard and put away wet, the roof repair is the least of the problems. That is a known.
When words like "bring up to code" are used, it means the municipality has you by the short hairs and you can't take your business elsewhere.

I love a good daydream too, and that's a great one! And, don't forget, Elon's sister, Tosca, was an executive producer and featured actress in Tiki Bar TV! Shake the both of 'em down!!

Wish we could save it. Never thought the Mai Kai in this day and age would go the way of the Kahiki. Fingers crossed a solution comes to pass! Mai Kai was the last vacation I took precovid. So glad I did!

I've never been to the Mai Kai but it was on my near term bucket list. I guess that ship has sailed. Sadness envelops me.

As they say, It ain't over until the Fat Lady sings....
Was talking to someone at the Mai Kai last week, and it seems they have begun some of the construction and the plan is to reopen when they can... So hopefully it is not gone for good. Also the news articles helped them in their search for an investor... Don't know exactly what that means, but it sounded like a positive spin at least.
Still no idea when they would reopen...Not thinking this year, but at least there was talk of reopening...

Wow, that's just about the best news I've heard this month! Probably dipping into portions of last month too. Heck, I'm just gonna whip me up a Rum Barrel.

I’ll be at the Mai-Kai Marketplace on the 17th! We will be holding our first in person Tiki Bingo in over a year to support the workers at the Mai-Kai.

I plan on bringing home a gallon of Barrel O’ Rum or something to enjoy.
