Aloha!

This is my first post and found it rather fitting to be on Friday the 13th because along with Tiki, I also love all things spooky. I was born on the 13th, so I find the number to be of luck and not just superstition. So, Happy Friday the 13th!

Fun trivia of a Hawaiian Urban Legend about the Night Marchers?
Ghosts of old Hawaiian warriors travel along set paths, often in and around places where battles took place, or near heiau (traditional Hawaiian places of worship). Known as huaka’i po, Night Marchers are considered to be the apparitions of ancient Hawaiian warriors. With echoing steps often accompanied by the thunderous pounding of drums, they’ve been known to follow the lunar schedule. While some recount sightings of the procession hovering above the ground, they’re decidedly a worldly battalion – leaving footprints on the trails they traverse, carrying torches to illuminate their routes, chanting as they travel in rows, and sending waves crashing and plumes of mist in their wake. Listen for the blowing of the conch shell: Hawaiian historians presume the marchers are on ceremonial excursions, which is often celebrated by the sounding of the pu. Should you come across this phantom band, myth proclaims that one should strip naked and lie face down in their paths – and never, ever look at them. After all, these are the King’s men, appointed to shield the holiest chiefs from common man.

OK real talk and a little bit more about me,
I live in Austin TX. I am a Marine Cargo Underwriter and specialize in Maritime shipments and law.

Like most on here I collect a LOT of $#[email protected] (nice stuff)!!! I collect antique, macabre - oddities (LOVE crappy taxidermy), vintage Halloween and Christmas, mid-century modern, AND SO MUCH MORE!

My husband is a Hot Rod builder and specializes in custom interior upholstery and is part of the TV show on Motor Trend called; Iron Resurrection.

We are preparing to build a home Tiki Bar. Our garage has been converted and will make a nice cozy space. We just installed outlets in the ceiling and painted all the walls brown. Next, we stain the floors. So if you don’t mind, as our journey continues, I would love to reach out for tips and/or suggestions. And of course I will share our progress along the way. Who knows maybe one day if you’re passing through Austin, you can drop in for a cocktail. Mi Casa Su Casa!

If I was a cocktail in my own Tiki bar, I’d be a 1934 Zombie - “a mender of broken dreams”
What would you be?

Well, if you have gotten this far, Thank you for still reading. I am super excited to be here. I look forward to chatting with you all in the coming months. In due time, I would like to become an initiate in the FOM and since I live in Austin TX, I’d specifically like to join the ‘ONA PANIOLO Chapter. (*wink*wink)

I look forward to one day being part of the FOM Family.

Till then, Hau’Oli Maoli Oe

LOVE the name! And, the story.

For what it’s worth, I think I heard those drums last night... I woke up face down and naked this morning.

Aloooha Mistyki Mahina!!! SO good to see you in the port!!! Congrats on the home tiki bar beginning! We are also on that journey so maybe we can exchange tips and tricks. :) Great question, if I was a tiki cocktail I would have to be a Navy Grog, my dad was a British Sailor in the British Merchant Navy and it always makes me think of him. Hoping to see you soon in person. :)
